Haughley Park Barns Wedding – Alison & Simon

The English summer drizzle failed to dampen Alison & Simon’s lovely day in Suffolk. Alison had spent months prior to the day designing, styling and making a whole host of vintage inspired decorations. Hand printed place mats, homemade raspberry gin favours, pretty, floral bunting and hand-painted sign telling guests of the day’s events.

The vintage theme was carried through to a stunning lace dress from Justin Alexander, Rachel Simpson shoes and the dusky pink bridesmaid dresses from Monsoon. Of course, Simon and the chaps looked equally handsome in their smart grey suits and traditional rose buttonholes.

The reception venue, Haughley Park Barns, near Stowmarket in Suffolk is a photographers dream. The grounds offer an almost endless choice of backdrops and settings and are perfect for portraits. I’m really looking forward to my next visit and further exploring the stunning gardens.

Here’s a selection of their pictures – including some of my favourite first dance shots of the year!

PS – a note to couple’s planning their own church weddings. To preserve the sanctity of the holy sacrament, St Peter’s in Henley, Suffolk is part of a group of churches which strictly prohibit photography during marriage services. However, they did allow two videographers to film the entire marriage from tripods on the altar and along the aisle. Obviously from a personal point of view it’s slightly perplexing not to be allowed the same opportunity as my video colleagues (who are great by the way), but rules are rules… My advice is to check with your vicar what they will, or won’t, allow. If it’s really important to you to have shots in the church, discuss this with them well in advance of the wedding and keep your photographer informed!
