It was an utter joy to be part of Bizi & Oob’s (Elizabeth & Alan’s), winter wedding in Suffolk. One of the most enjoyable aspects to being a wedding photographer is getting to know my clients and hear their stories about meeting and falling in love. However, when it comes to proposing, Oob’s was a little unusual.
Picture the scene, a Friday night on London’s Southbank. A misunderstanding as to where they were meeting resulted in Oob spending half the evening trying to track down Bizi who was out with a group of friends. Needless to say, when they eventually caught up with each other Oob was a little put out. Cue cross words and a quiet journey home to South London. Now, anyone who knows the Underground network will be aware that the journey between Stockwell and Brixton can be a little strange at the best of times, think The Twighlight Zone. Oob, feeling the need to diffuse the situation did the only thing he could think of to ease the atmosphere – propose. OK, so Bizi’s initial response is unrepeatable, but she soon realised he was entirely serious and quickly accepted. Hooray for a happy ending!
Looking through their pictures, you’ll notice lots of origami birds. Oob’s Mother is from Japan where there is a tradition called Senbazuru, which requires a bride to make 1000 paper cranes for the wedding day. This is to bring luck and happiness to the couple. Plus, the more friends who help out, the more luck the couple will have. Bizi kindly let me take a handful home and they now sit on my bookcase – I can see them as I write!
It was a real honour to be part of this lovely couple’s perfect day and I’m so very happy for them. I wish you both a long and very happy marriage – 結婚おめでとうございます (I so hope that’s right and I’ve not wished them a long and happy hamster wagon!).
As always, supplier details are at the bottom of the page.
PS – Bizi works for Harringey Shed, a North London based charity which organises inclusive performing arts events for kids. The work they do is fantastic – please take a moment to look at their website and lend them your support!
Bizi & Oob’s reception was at The Swan Hotel in Lavenham, Suffolk.
Bizi wore an Atelier Diagonal gown from Suffolk bridal shop Lavender & Jude. The gorgeous peep-toe shoes were by Rachel Simpson.
Lavenham is a beautiful and historic town and well worth a visit if you are in the area. The Swan Hotel did a great job of hosting the reception and I’m happy to recommend it to any couple planning their wedding.
